Equipment

Large sheets of paper or cardboard, pencils, markers, newspaper clippings, glue, scissors, or digital tools (e.g., Canva or PowerPoint)

How?

How to do it

  1. Organize a workshop where young people can create fictional advertising signs for an exercise or activity event.

  2. Emphasize that they are free to dream and be creative—they don’t have to think about what is possible in reality. Ask the young people the following question:
“If we lived in a fantasy world, what kind of exercise activities would be available at the youth center or in town? Create an advertising sign that promotes this activity.”

  3. The young people work in small groups and create their signs either by hand (on cardboard or large paper) or digitally (e.g., in Canva).

  4. Newspaper clippings, pictures, stickers, or their own drawings can be used for inspiration.

  5. Present the young people’s advertising signs together. Then put them up in a visible place on the walls of the center.

  6. Analyze the signs: What do they say about the young people’s exercise preferences? Compile the ideas and preferences that have emerged and use the information when planning future excursions, events, groups, or courses.

Why?

Creative idea development strengthens young people’s participation and encourages them to think about what kind of movement feels meaningful. Joint planning and creation promote cooperation, group skills, and a sense of community. The method also provides leaders with valuable information about young people’s wishes and ideas that can be used when planning activities.
