Annual exercise calendar
Planning: 1–2 hours
Medium
Large paper and post-it notes, writing materials, or digital tools for drawing the Year of Movemen
The entire unit
How to do it
-
Draw a large annual wheel on paper (e.g., a circle with 12 months) or using your chosen digital tool.
-
Discuss together:
- When and how can exercise be integrated into the business?
- Are there specific seasons, weekends, events, or campaigns where physical activity is particularly appropriate?
-
Write your ideas on the wheel. Examples:
- January: New Year’s exercise challenge
- March: Outdoor games
- May: Parkour school
- September: Walking campaign or cycling day
- December: Exercise advent calendar
-
Assign responsibilities. Divide up who will implement and who will remind, between staff and young people.
-
Make the plan visible. Hang the annual wheel on the wall in the youth center or share a digital version. Return to it regularly, e.g., at monthly meetings or joint planning sessions.
-
Adapt and update. The exercise year can be developed – gather feedback and improve it based on experience.
The exercise year supports everyday well-being, increases predictability, and integrates physical activity as part of the shared culture. Physical activity improves mood, and shared experiences strengthen the community.
