How?

How to do it

  1. Plan a regular time for the activity. Choose a recurring occasion, for example once a month or every week, when you and the young people visit a nearby activity or leisure center.

  2. Choose destinations together with the young people in advance. Examples of activities:

    • Visit the local sports hall where you can move around freely.
    • Outdoor gym, parkour area, or trails in a nearby forest.
    • The school gym during free time.
  3. Book the necessary times well in advance.

  4. Keep the activity low-threshold. Emphasize that you can participate without special training clothes – even jeans are fine. Focus on participating and experiencing something new together.

  5. Make the activity visible. For example, use weekly schedules or notices on the walls of the youth center to provide reminders and information about upcoming visits or exercise sessions.

Why?

Discovering nearby activity opportunities strengthens young people’s ability to take action and their connection to their local environment. It lowers the threshold for participating in leisure activities on their own. Exercising together and having new experiences increases the sense of community and supports a positive attitude towards physical activity.
