How to do it
-
Ask the young people to take a picture that shows their favorite way to move. It can be a small everyday moment (e.g., walking, dancing in their room, playing outside) or something more energetic—the important thing is that it is meaningful to them.
-
Make it clear that this is not a competition, but about sharing experiences and showing the diversity of movement.
-
Ask them to write a short caption: “Why does this particular way of moving feel good to me?”
-
Collect the pictures for a physical exhibition on the walls of the youth center or digitally in, for example, Padlet, PowerPoint, or the youth center’s social media channels.
-
Look at the pictures together and discuss: What types of movement did the young people choose? What does that say about their wishes? What did we learn about each other’s ways of moving?
-
Use the pictures as inspiration for future ideas or events: How can we incorporate these specific ways of moving into youth activities?
Recognizing and sharing their own favorite activity strengthens self-awareness and participation. When young people see how many different ways there are to be active, it creates an accepting climate and lowers the threshold for participation. Photography stimulates creativity and encourages people to see movement in the small moments of everyday life.
