How to do it
-
Ask the young people in advance or on the spot to choose one or more songs from a specific category. The category should be chosen so that the song they choose says something about the person but is still easy to share with others. Examples: childhood favorites, pep songs, songs that make you want to move.
-
Collect the songs in a shared playlist, for example on Spotify or YouTube.
-
Encourage the participants by getting up and moving yourself. Play the songs and encourage the young people to move freely to the music.
-
You can listen to the songs in sets of three, for example. For each song, you can talk about:
- Why did you choose this particular song?
- What memory or feeling does it evoke in you?
- Is the song connected to any particular event?
Music evokes feelings, memories, and meanings. Listening together and sharing memories strengthens self-expression and the experience of being heard. Movement makes the moment easier and helps regulate energy levels.
