Help from a professional
Once or regularly, depending on the scope of the collaboration
Medium
Depends on the activity
Young people, youth leaders, sports instructors
How to do it
-
Identify preferences. Start by gathering young people’s ideas and preferences regarding physical activity, e.g. through conversations, idea slips, or a short survey.
-
Plan the setup. Consider whether the activity is suitable as a one-off event, on a regular basis during the term, as a theme period, or as a recurring annual campaign.
-
Contact experts. Contact your municipality’s sports services or local exercise providers. Ask if an instructor can come and lead an activity at the youth center or in the local area, either once or at regular intervals.
-
Plan together. Design the activity together with your partner. The youth leader acts as the voice of the young people, a planning partner, and a communicator.
-
Participate yourself. Take part in the activity itself. Young people become more motivated when the leader sets an example and participates.
Cooperation between sports and youth services provides more resources, ideas, and expertise to promote physical activity and mental well-being among young people. When a professional leads activities that are tailored to young people’s wishes and where the leaders also participate as role models, motivation to participate increases. Meaningful exercise provides a sense of well-being, and joint activities strengthen young people’s sense of participation and meaningfulness.
