How to do it
-
Choose a suitable walking route or destination together with the young person or group. If you want, you can give the walk a light and motivating theme:
- Discovery walk in the local area: Walk new paths and get to know the area’s services or interesting places.
- Coffee walk: Walk together to a nice café and enjoy a coffee break.
- Library walk: Visit the library and familiarize yourselves with its premises and services.
- Frisbee golf walk: Play frisbee golf together in a playful or goal-oriented way.
- Walk to the barbecue hut: Get out into nature and spend time at a barbecue area while eating a packed lunch.
- Walk to outdoor activities: Discover an outdoor gym, skateboard park, or field during your walk.
- Art walk: Look at street art, sculptures, or public artworks and share your thoughts about them.
-
If necessary, consider privacy when planning the route: Choose a route where you can have confidential conversations in peace and quiet.
-
During a relaxed walk, you can share what has happened, talk about dreams for the future, or goals related to education and work.
-
If necessary, you can take breaks along the way.
-
After the walk, if you wish, you can stop and share the experiences and feelings that the conversation during the walk evoked.
Walking supports mental well-being through movement, interaction, and a calm environment. Conversations in a relaxed atmosphere can make it easier to talk about even difficult things and strengthen the trust between the young person and the leader.
