Tip: You can also turn the activity time into a walk to the store!

  1. Choose a nearby natural area where there are edible mushrooms, wild herbs, or berries. Take into account the season and the interests of the group.

  2. Present the idea to the young people: we are going to make a new dish – collect something from nature and cook a meal or snack together.

  3. Bring materials for species identification. Print out pictures or show easily recognizable plants, mushrooms, or berries on your phone. Emphasize safety: only collect what you can identify with certainty.

  4. Move calmly and observe together. The excursion is not stressful – stop, talk, and explore. Not everyone needs to participate in the gathering, and that’s perfectly fine.

  5. When you return, sort through your harvest together and cook something simple and tasty – for example, nettle pesto, berry smoothies, herb butter, or mushroom pizza.

  6. Finish by eating together. Create a peaceful moment and share experiences from the trip.

Why?

The outing promotes mental well-being through contact with nature, exercise, and community, and offers a meaningful way to experience the surroundings. Doing and eating together strengthens the sense of community.
