Tip: You can also turn the activity time into a walk to the store!
-
Choose a nearby natural area where there are edible mushrooms, wild herbs, or berries. Take into account the season and the interests of the group.
-
Present the idea to the young people: we are going to make a new dish – collect something from nature and cook a meal or snack together.
-
Bring materials for species identification. Print out pictures or show easily recognizable plants, mushrooms, or berries on your phone. Emphasize safety: only collect what you can identify with certainty.
-
Move calmly and observe together. The excursion is not stressful – stop, talk, and explore. Not everyone needs to participate in the gathering, and that’s perfectly fine.
-
When you return, sort through your harvest together and cook something simple and tasty – for example, nettle pesto, berry smoothies, herb butter, or mushroom pizza.
-
Finish by eating together. Create a peaceful moment and share experiences from the trip.
The outing promotes mental well-being through contact with nature, exercise, and community, and offers a meaningful way to experience the surroundings. Doing and eating together strengthens the sense of community.
