Tip
Make the outing a regular routine (e.g., once a month) or combine it with another activity, such as brainstorming ideas on how the young people themselves can improve their local environment.

  1. Together with the young people, choose an environmentally friendly mode of transport for the outing, such as walking or cycling.

  2. Decide on a route together or set off spontaneously in the local area.

  3. Bring what you need to pick up litter: gloves, bags, and possibly litter pickers.

  4. Ask the young people to observe their surroundings: What is good here? What is missing? How are human and natural well-being connected?

  5. Pick up litter as you walk and talk.

  6. End the outing by sitting down for a while and sharing your thoughts: What was surprising? How did it feel to help the environment?

Why?

Being active in nature and doing something together promotes calmness, participation, and a sense of purpose. At the same time, young people get to experience that they can influence both their own well-being and that of the environment.
