How?

How to

  1. Prepare fun gift cards (small notes or cards) with light-hearted “perks” linked to youth activities.

  2. Examples of gift cards:
    – “You get to choose the next break music”
    – “The leader will treat you to coffee or tea”
    – “Exempt from the next cleaning duty”
    – “You get to decide what we do next”
    – “You get three compliments from the leader”

  3. Hide the gift cards in an area of your choice (e.g., the yard, youth center, or indoors) where it is safe and fun to search.

  4. Gather the young people and tell them that there are surprise cards hidden in the area that they can keep if they find them.

  5. Give a common starting signal and remind them that it is important to move around safely. You can set a rule that each person can find a maximum of one card.

  6. Gather afterwards and talk about the finds. The young people can use their cards immediately or save them for later.

Why?

Searching increases curiosity and motivates independent activity. Finding the reward gives a sense of achievement and strengthens the experience of one’s own abilities. When planning the content of the gift cards, you can promote young people’s mental well-being in various ways, for example by giving positive feedback or opportunities to choose and influence. This in turn promotes young people’s sense of participation and positive interaction between leaders and young people.
