Everyday Life as a Strength
Everyday Life as a Strength includes a digital tool and picture cards for holding the discussion. The materials are based on the theoretical background and core principles of the Let’s Talk about Children method. Everyday Life as a Strength discussions can be conducted by professionals who have completed training in the Let’s Talk about Children method.
A joint discussion about everyday life
The family and the professional discuss different themes in the child’s or young person’s everyday life: friends, family, early childhood education, school, work and leisure time. Participation in the discussion is voluntary, and there do not need to be any particular concerns in the family in order to have the discussion. The discussion focuses on one child in the family at a time and can also be held with families who are expecting a child.
The aim of the discussion is to:
- increase shared understanding of the things that are going well in everyday life and the things that place a strain on it
- consider how we can strengthen the wellbeing and resilience of the child or young person. Resilience is built through positive interaction between people. Resilience means coping reasonably well in everyday life despite challenges, stress or changes.
- reflect on what kinds of feelings the different themes evoke and whether there have been any recent changes in relation to them
- plan what can be done in the future to support everyday life and strengthen protective factors
