The aim of the projeckt

The objective of the project Youth Work as a Promoter of Movement is to strengthen young people’s mental well-being through physical activity within youth work. The aim is to work together with youth workers to develop the operating environment and culture of youth work in a more movement-friendly direction. A central focus is on strengthening youth workers’ role and competence as promoters of everyday physical activity.

Youth work reaches a large number of young people on a daily basis nationwide. Youth work environments offer excellent opportunities to enhance young people’s mental well-being by bringing joy and a sense of community into their everyday lives through functional, movement-based activities. Youth workers’ skills in engaging with young people, along with trusting and confidential relationships, are key factors in supporting a physically active lifestyle among young people.

New Tools for Youth Sector Professionals

As part of the project, two complementary resources were published to support the promotion of everyday physical activity, targeted at professionals working in the youth sector.

1. An Active Youth – A Well-Being Mind: Course for Youth Work

The aim of the online course is to provide concrete tips on how to reduce young people’s sedentary behavior and strengthen their mental well-being through physical activity.

2. Come on! More Movement in Youth Work – Digital Tool

Come on! offers quick and fun tips for promoting everyday physical activity.

The Movement in Youth Work project is funded by the government program Make a move, which aims to increase physical activity across all age groups (getfinlandmoving.fi).
